What is the difference between fibre and WiFi?

Fibre (Fibre Optic Internet): Uses thin strands of glass or plastic to transmit data as light signals. It provides ultra-fast, reliable and high-capacity internet connections. Fibre is wired, meaning a physical connection runs to homes, businesses or data centres.

Fibre provides the backbone of the internet, delivering high-speed data to homes and businesses.

WiFi: Uses radio waves to wirelessly transmit data over short distances. It allows devices to connect to the internet without cables, typically from a router that is connected to a fibre or other broadband source.

WiFi distributes the connection wirelessly within a home or office, allowing multiple devices to connect.

Is fibre internet available in my area?

We’re expanding our fibre network rapidly in Nigeria and availability is constantly growing! Please check our coverage page for availability and internet service providers.

How do I order fibre?

Visit our coverage page to check if there is fibre in your area and to find an ISP. Once your order is placed with your ISP, it will go through a number of verification steps both from our side as well as from your ISP’s side. Once all of these steps have been completed and your order has been accepted and processed, you will receive an email and be contacted to schedule your installation.

How do I connect my estate?

Contact us or your preferred ISP to discuss bringing fibre to your estate. Your location and connectivity needs will be determined.

Survey & Planning – Engineers will conduct a site survey to determine the best installation route with minimal disruption.

Right of Way Agreement – If required, the ISP will work with the landowner, property manager, or estate representatives to secure permission for fibre installation.

Installation Process – Once the design is approved, fibre infrastructure will be installed throughout the estate, connecting homes or businesses to our high-speed network.

Choose a Service Provider – Once the network is live, residents and businesses can select from a range of internet service providers (ISPs) offering broadband packages tailored to their needs.

What is the difference between Open Access Metro and an ISP?

We, as Open Access Metro Services, build and maintain the high-speed, open-access fibre network in your area and provide your home with a fibre connection point. An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is the company you pay to provide you with connectivity to the internet over our network. They use our connection point to provide you with internet access and Wi-Fi.

What can I expect during the installation?

Your internet service provider (ISP) should have provided you with a timeslot for your installation. If you haven’t received one, please contact them directly for more details.

On the day of installation, engineers will bring the fibre cable from the street into your property. They will discuss the best route with you to ensure a smooth installation with minimal disruption.

What is the installation process?

A new installation takes approximately 7-10 working days. The installation is designed to be smooth and hassle-free! Your internet service provider (ISP) will schedule a convenient appointment, and certified technicians will run a thin fibre cable to your home, usually through existing entry points. They will discreetly connect it to your router and optimise your settings for your speed. They will clean up afterwards and you’ll be surfing at lightning speed in no time!

Is the service uncapped?

There are no data caps, just pure, unthrottled internet for you to explore, learn, work and play – your way. Say goodbye to the anxiety of data caps and hello to unlimited internet freedom with our Nigerian FTTH! Forget counting gigabytes and worrying about exceeding limits.

What is a fair usage policy?

A Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is a guideline set by internet service providers to ensure that all users on a network have a fair and consistent experience. It prevents a small number of heavy users from consuming an excessive amount of bandwidth, which could impact the speeds and quality of service for others. While most users won’t notice the FUP, those who exceed a certain data threshold might experience reduced speeds or other measures during peak times. This helps maintain a balanced and reliable network for everyone. If you think your usage might be affected, check your plan details or contact our support team for more information!

How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Please contact your Internet Service Provider to upgrade or downgrade.

How do I switch Providers on the Open Access Metro Network?

If you already have a live fibre broadband service on the Open Access Metro Network and want to switch to another ISP within our network, the new (or ‘gaining’) ISP will coordinate the switch with Open Access Metro.

When placing an order with your new ISP, they should advise you to notify your current provider about your intention to cancel your service. Keep in mind that each ISP has different cancellation notice periods, so check with your existing provider to avoid service interruptions.

How do I cancel my connection?

Please contact your Internet Service Provider to process a cancellation.
